Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen started her modeling career in 2007, moving to New York City and eventually signing a multi-million dollar contract with Victoria’s Secret. Now a mother of two and wife to football star Tom Brady, the Latina beauty has kept her fabulous figure through the years, continuing to model even as she runs a busy household. With such a demanding life, Gisele Caroline Bundchen needs a diet and workout routine that works into her schedule, and she has found that balance through a combination of martial arts, yoga practice, Pilates, and a portion-controlled diet.
Gisele Bundchen’s surprising workout routine
Supermodel Gisele Bundchen practices kung fu to keep in shape. When you think supermodel, especially Victoria’s Secret Angel, you do not immediately think about kicks and punches… In 2010, Bundchen gave birth to her son and revealed in an interview with Vogue that Kung Fu was a major factor in how she stayed fit during her pregnancy. Yes, Kung Fu. “I was mindful about what I ate, and I gained only 30 pounds,” she said during the interview. “I did Kung Fu up until two weeks before Benjamin was born, and yoga three days a week.” Kung F is a Chinese form of martial arts originally developed by monks to refine the body and the mind. While a style of fighting, the ultimate goal of this practice is to align the body with chi, the life force which ancient Chinese belief states moves around all people. Gisele Bundchen’s Kung Fu instructor, Yao Li of the Boston Kung Fu Tai Chi Institute, told She Knows Gisele has trained with him for an average of three times per week, 90-minute sessions, for more than four years.
“The stance work and kicking techniques improve muscle tone and flexibility in the lower body. Blocking drills and hand techniques do the same for the upper body, especially the shoulders and arms,” Li told SHAPE. “Drills that combine hand and foot work require strength and agility in the core muscles and help to increase coordination and balance.” Like most supermodel-level stars, Gisele Bundchen knows the value of eating right—in moderation—and avoiding too much of those items which pack on the extra pounds. She indicates that while she will occasionally have an ice cream cone or a few pieces of chocolate, she never overindulges in alcoholic beverages.
